Kahotea told ONE Gossip that at one point in the harrowing experience the pair thought their chances of survival were slim.

"At one stage Geoff told me, 'You go alone one of a pair, swim to shore'."

But Kahotea said he wanted the pair to stick together.

He said he owed his soul to his rescuers.

"If it wasn't for them I don't think I'd be sitting here."

The Hawk crew had been patrolling the area when they found an upturned dinghy about 3.30pm.

Officers resolved people had been aboard the boat and were subsequently informed by the coastguard that two men were missing.

After a search by two coastguard boats, a customs boat and the Northland Vibrations rescue helicopter, the men were found.

The men were winched off the Hawk in a one-metre swell by the rescue helicopter and treated by St John Ambulance.

Do I need an electric boat trailer winch?

I in need of to buy a boat trailer. I am wondering whether I need a boat trailer winch. When I went to a dealer, he tried to sell me a trailer with an electric winch. Do I categorically need one? It increases the price significantly.

try trailering your boat with a script crank winch, you can always add the electric winch later if you find that you need it

Depends on the boat, and you. If you are to a certain built or getting older it is an excellent thing. If the boat is big it is very good indeed. If the boat is a simple light runabout it perhaps isn't needed. If you like showing off your huge arm muscles

It depends on your boat scope and weight and how fit you are! If your boat is heavy, an electric winch will be very, very useful. However, for something small like a jetski it will be just a waste of gelt. This can help you decide what winch is right
