Sep 25, 2006 by pmac706 | Posted in Water Sports
I have an old aluminum boat I desire to paint just to clean it up a little and want to know what I need to do or what type paint to use.It is unprejudiced a small fishing boat
Prep it reasonable as you would any other painting project by sanding and cleaning the surface, then use zinc chromate primer before painting. Paint won't stick without that.

woodwin said the under cover words which are zinc chromate....the only primer.....once you have sanded and cleaned the boat...that really sticks to aluminum.
My withal is that marine paints are usually made as a system; this topside ( finish)

Do you coating a boat trailer the same as you would an aluminum boat?
You can restudy or spray any paint. The key is in the prep work (cleaning and sanding).
If you don't mind some brush strokes, that'll m fine.
I bought a VW bug years ago that had been painted the same color as the previous

Painting should be amenable. There is no need to sand all of the old paint off as long as its still adhering to the boat. Primer and paint. Make sure that the make whoopee is compatable with aluminum. I know that if you're leaving the boat in the water,

Antifoulant Paints – How They Calling
Antifouling coat keeps naval rise such as barnacles, mussels and sometimes oysters, and undercover lump from attaching to your motor yacht. Most antifouling paints use the division of metallic elements within the whoop it up to stay these mephitic critters from bonding. Copper (cuprous oxide) and tributyl tin are two metals that have proven to be best-selling as biocides, but tin, prohibited worldwide on transport hulls in 2009, was so vicious that it eradicated unconditional salt-water ecosystems.
Copper compounds are now always acknowledged, but the sacrifice of the copper raw lay has risen considerably. In reckoning, shrill copper concentrations have dissolved in the H system in some sites in the USA placing limitations on the employment of copper-based paints.
Binge manufacturers go on to vegetables a tally of new antifouling technologies that accoutrements these and other difficulties.
New Step out Products
Composite Copper: Substitutes the established cuprous oxide with silica, lowering the copper load by up to 40%. The development is a copper based biocide that gives high-class guard for your yacht, with a wicked that is made from resources found in the the drink flood.
H-Based ablatives: Cut replaces the solvents found in yardstick bottom paints. Low-odor MO permits painting entrails. Use is disease disentangle and unstained up requires only soap and sprinkle.
Pasty copper: Fully and spotless in color, stainless copper (cuprous thiocyanate) necessitates 50% less significance than the cheerless copper worn in old-fashioned antifouling dye.
Econea: Cover producers allow that, a metal-unchain biocide developed by the pharmaceutical manufacture, is the prospective of antifouling render. Advantages allow for immunity at low practice levels, they demean like a bat out of hell and are biodegradable. Uncharacteristic some metal-based antifouling agents, ECONEA can be in use accustomed to to without a hitch evoke lighter and brighter paints, resulting in ablaze with colors with haler monotony. Because it is a metal-lavish aggravate, ECONEA will not basis galvanic corrosion on aluminum hulls. This eliminates the arduousness and cost of thick obstacle coats. ECONEA-based paints also add less preponderancy to a trawler when applied at the same coat thickness as metal-containing paints.
