What is the difference between welded verses riveted aluminum boats?

Penalty and weight. A welded boat cost more and weighs more. Takes an extra hp for every 25 lbs of added weight. Drinks more gas!! If your scarcely fishing go with a high quality riveted boat. If your working construction go with the welded rig. I own

Welded stronger. Rivets can "m" in the holes & elongate the holes, causing wear and leaks. Welded is a greater expense.

welded aluminum boats are a much stronger and no worrys about leaks around rivets which will eventualy occur.

I was recently on Puget Strong in Washington and saw 2 boats that were open work boats with a center counsel in the 18 foot class. They looked like mammoth row boats. The sides were at least 5 foot high. I found no name or brand on them. Does anybody

The craft is a 1982 Starcraft, I have already installed a bilge pump but would like to get the problem fixed not just patched. Any opinion would be helpful.
welding every underwater thickness is going to be expensive, instead try coating the outside of the seams with either a good caulk [ rtv for one] or using a commodity like devcon aluminum patch. any work has to be on the outside otherwise the water will

I have an aluminum fishing small craft with a thin crack about a foot and a half long I need welded up. Anybody know what this should cost me? I dont wana get ripped off.
A laudatory welder should be able to TIG weld that as long as its clean and easy to get at. To make it very easy empty the boat and if its on the bottom get it flipped over, much easier then maintenance welding. Depending on the prep involved I would

In my viewpoint Aluminium boats are more when dealing with scanty be indefensible wiliness and are pretty full-bodied but they can be utterly nice compared to there fiberglass counterparts.
Fiberglass boats exhibit to absorb traumatize think twice whereas an alumium boats will more likley dint in the same site.
The downside to fiberglass is that over just the same from time to time the gelcoat will give up down while being exposed to the elements.
Aluminium is low maintence sailboat, lighter and by more effeicent skin.
If you knockabout is succeeding to be hit regulary, I would make one think and fiberglass runabout will be more sturdy.
