Consequence and weight. A welded boat cost more and weighs more. Takes an extra hp for every 25 lbs of added tonnage. Drinks more gas!! If your just fishing go with a high quality riveted boat. If your working construction go with the welded rig. I own

Rivets can "travail" in the holes & elongate the holes, causing wear and leaks.
Welded is a greater expense.

welded aluminum boats are a much stronger and no worrys about leaks around rivets which will eventualy transpire.

I was recently on Puget Logical in Washington and saw 2 boats that were open work boats with a center counsel in the 18 foot class. They looked like behemoth row boats. The sides were at least 5 foot high. I found no name or brand on them. Does anybody
