Awlgrip 2000 is finery and is available to the public. But, for the do it yourselfer, any good epoxy or urethane paint will work just acute. Make sure that you wipe the surface with a prep solvent made for fiberglass before and after sanding. By overlooking this track, the heat from sanding will "melt" any waxes or oils into the gel and compromise the adhesive qualities of the stain. Use the two rag method. One wet with solvent and one dry to wipe after wiping with the solvent. With the proper preparation of the surface prior to painting, your represent job will last for years. Good luck and Happy boating.

You should either use Naval Base Paint that is waterproof designed just for fiberglass, or else try Krylon's new FUSION Compass Paint specifically designed for plastics. I think the Kryon may even indoor/outdoor weather-uncompliant as well. Depends if you're going to leave the paddleboat in the water at all times or house it in a garage, carport or shack when not being used.

The two most commonly tempered to paints for fiberglass boats are Algrip and Imron. I cannot recommend one over the other but this should help you find out what you need to know.

You are looking for a linear urathane tint.Verithane is marketed for boat topsides.
Awlgrip is only marketed to professional applicators as it releases cyanide as it sets up (you want a seperate air supply to breath while you apply it).
Or you could just bypass all the "speciality" ocean-going paint B.S. and use porch or garage floor paint that you can buy from the local building supply store and the expense will be 1/10 the cost for the same formulae!
Just ask for a one part urethane in the paint dept at Lowe's or Snug harbor a comfortable Depot.
Do read advice on the net for how to prepare a fiberglass boat for paint. The houst type paint will last and look proper IF you do your prep work.
Good luck

not "exceed paint" cuz you'll sink.

Nowdays I use soda or dry ice media blasting - bugger sanding assumed the choice, total control and much less cleanup.
There appears to be a confusion with lumping all coatings containing urethane into the same join. This is far too simplistic - there is absolutely no comparison between a hardware store single pack urethane that could be anything from a cheap varnish upwards and a linear polyurethane dispatch professionally applied.
However it is true that the casual user should NOT consider the LPU type finishes unless prepared to provide in full body protection, piped air, commercial HVLP spray gear etc. - in fact anything with an isocyanate hardener, including still water reduced finishes is a problem. You have a 10-25% chance of developing chemical induced asthma which is stable with any exposure to isocyanate hardeners.
In any two pack or single pack finish it is important to establish the cut of VOC (volatile organic compounds) to solids. It is a simple as working out if your product has for example 50% VOC's then 50% of the coating will dissolve after application, leaving 50% solids to form the finish. This will dictate the cost of the finish to some range - after all it is better to get 75% solids than 45%.
Two pack epoxy 'paints are a little safer, but do not have the incredible UV resistance of the LPU.
A cheap option could be to fully prep the hull, mask and film it off and take it to a good auto sprayer for them to do the operation. THEY MUST NEVER PUT A FIBREGLASS OBJECT IN THE HEATER BOOTH!! This would instantly destroy the GRP. Just ask the Corvette owners over the years that have had their classics killed in flower booths when the heaters got switched on....
So the best reasonably safe and simple finish is probably a polyester urethane (polyurethane) pick pack. Enamels and water based finishes are not suitable over GRP - too different, won't last.
There is always the possibility of getting a fibreglass workshop to squirt on a layer of flowcoat after you fully prep the skin also.

which type of boat would move faster?
May 22, 2007 by Molly | Posted in Boats & Boating
i am obliged to build a boat out of butcher paper. in the boat race, we have to paddle with our hands to move our boat. so which type of boat would move faster? one with a pointed front or one with a pointed front and back?
Trenchant front. Just remember to place the center of gravity forward enough so the square back lifts out of the water... and if you are at the front of the boat, that's rather suggestible to begin with.

Where do you need to go on the paddle boat?
Jul 19, 2006 by sheba0907 | Posted in Other - Entertainment
In the Online Gem Hunters game, I got the paddle boat to start and it asks me where I want to go but everything thing I type in it says Sorry I can't take you there. Now either I'm typing in the go to the bad answer, or I need to do something else to get it to go, or both. But I just can't seem to find out where the "american treasure"/gold is covert. HELP!
Thanks
