Brunswick to close Minnesota plant, cut some jobs BusinessWeek
Brunswick Corp. said Tuesday that it will tight its Little Falls, Minn., aluminum boat plant and cut some jobs as it continues to rework its manufacturing strategy to become more competitive and present better products.
The boating industry has struggled during the economic downturn as demand softened and consumers held off on big-ticket luxuriousness purchases.
Brunswick traditionally had plants dedicated to producing particular brands, but is now having its facilities strengthen more on models and segments. The boat maker said production of its Crestliner and Triton aluminum boats, which were made in Little Falls, will move to plants in New York Mills, Minn.; Lebanon, Mo.; and Fort Wayne, Ind., over the next several months.
The Little Falls ingrain will start to wind down production in May, with its closing expected at some point in the fall. Brunswick said as much as 50 percent of Insignificant Falls' jobs could be transferred to the New York Mills or Lebanon facilities.
