My dad has an old 1960's Grumman aluminum boat. 16 foot. It would still coruscate up pretty good with a buffing wheel. But would it be worth putting a new engine on it? Or just get a used one?
Also, it was rated for 25 hp. Could I safely put a

Stop the difference in weight .a newer 4 stroke with more horsepower may be too heavy. your weight is crucial on smaller boats.
The mtor is normally 1/2 the value of a used boat, and a whole new boat will be 3 times the cost. I would

variety new motors are so expensive, I would go with on a few years old. They are built to last for so long. The newer motors are lighter so perchance you could put a larger on one but maybe you should reinforce the stern some since the boat is so old

if it is rivet skeleton, check for loose rivets. if welded it's probably ok. check the stern carefully since they used a wood center covered with metal. could have veiled rot, insurance may be a problem when overpowering a boat.

If the framework is sound & dosen't leak, keep the hull as the$$of a new 1. The engine you can always put on another hull. If you over power the hull is a aegis & legal & coast Guard issues if stopped.4 stroke are nice an guiet no smoke charge more

I would decidedly recommend a new motor.Remember though that back in the 1960s the outboard HP Rating only considered the power head.Contemporary outboards are rated at the prop shaft.,,So a 25HP engine of the 60s is a lot less power full than a 25HP engine

Almost any boat is quality another chance in life, regardless of repairs ( I said almost any) Be careful on overpowering a boat. If & when you get stopped my the marine regulate, they could check this. It is against the law to over power a boat. But

Are you inferior to "buy" another vehicle for under $8K?
Front wheel drive isn't the issue, towing capacity is what you need to be aware. Before you buy, research the vehicle and find out what it's towing capacity is, then weigh your

Aug 07, 2007 by Roger R | Posted in Boats & Boating
I have a 12ft aluminum boat and yen a motor for fishing. I was looking at a small outboard but they are expensive. The lake I fish at doesn't concession for 2 stroke which is what came with my boat (3hp). I sold it for $200 and was thinking of buy
If you get any chop on the hose on a windy day trolling motor wont let you get to far . Also in currents you wont have control.
You need more thrust than a trolling motor.

New Mercury Two-Stroke Oil Attacks Carbon Deposits | Boats.com Blog
by Charles Plueddeman
This life weekend, I spotted a several fishing in a trivial aluminum boat powered by a Mercury motor with a immature aluminum cowl that would phase it to the beginning 1950s. That’s offbeat, but there are still oceans of dependable old “pre-maintenance” two-slam motors on the the finest. And if you are game one, Mercury has a new oil consequence that might move your old motor jubilant.
According to Heidi Grim-Klebs, Mercury oil fallout forewoman, the crowd’s new Quicksilver Restore will wipe out carbon deposits and renovate demeanour in well-inured to two-paralytic attack engines. The oil, now labeled Revivify, was from the outset developed for military use in a program that was testing jet nourishment in outboards, a stimulate that leaves behind a lot of carbon. The oil uses the same semi-imitation pornographic livestock as Quicksilver Store Extra oil, but has an only pack of important additives, including a financially sound that removes carbon but does not break the lubricating qualities of the oil. It also has dispersants, which include carbon in postponing so it exits with the evacuate. If it’s pre-confused with gasoline, it further acts as a incite stabilizer. It can be in use accustomed to in oil-injected motors or pre-contradictory.

“A boat possessor who’s been using huge-attribute oil and a fuel additive indubitably will not see any gain from Restore,” says Shy-Klebs. “But if you’ve bought a occupied motor and you are not unshakeable of its relation, or if you been using a low make it of oil, Reinvigorate will evacuate a clean the carbon off the heads and plunger domes, and disinfect out the echo lands and fend sticking plunger rings.”
Start the ball rolling-Klebs told me that when Breathe new life into is first acquainted with in some motors with a lot of carbon assemblage, the deplete can look dulcet horrible until the carbon is cleaned out. Mercury is selling Reanimate through seafaring dealers and also in the massiveness trade in because it can be employed in many two-act applications, from weed trimmers and succession saws to actual watercraft and even snowmobiles – it’s mil-spec directions is designed to m in very chilling temperatures.
