I just bought an older aluminum boat with faded paint. How do I repaint it properly?

The motor yacht is a 1979 17ft aluminum Crestliner. Lots of days in the sun faded the paint. It is currently red and white and I think I will keep it that way. I don't need it to look like a show runabout or anything, it's a fishing boat. I really
Use a RO (unpremeditatedly orbit) sander with a medium grit (150-ish) paper to sand all of the surfaces and give something for some new paint to rod to. Don't be too aggressive or you'll be looking at the aluminum

Take a rotary sander and sand off all the old delineate. Then apply
marine primer and after that a
coat or two of marine
paint of your choice.

if you don't wanna take the old represent off, i'd just get a few cans of primer and spray paint it with about 5 coats of primer, then get some good spray apply and spray at least 5 light coats of paint, then a few coast of clear coat. and your done.

not_the_predictable has a really good answer, but for the primer i would go with zinc cromate it's made for aluminum. Then make sure your paint will be compatible with the primer.

I would sand the characterize with a 220grit paper. Then I would wash the hull off with mild soap and water. You don't need to dissipate more money than you have to. Let it dry off good and go buy you some 2 part primer. Prime the hull, the primer will fill alot

No primer top-priority, just wash, sand just to raise the grain and flake off anything that is likely to come off. Then, go to your neighbouring boating/marine store and buy yacht enamel. Don't thin, apply one coat, and your boat will look passionate.

Hi, merely bought a 01' Crestliner Angler series fishing boat with a 35hp Johnson. Looking into a bow-mount lonely trolling motor.......Currently have a little 50lbs thrust minn kota, just wondering if its benefit my money to sell that one and trade
hey man, since you have that 35 on the back then i would say yes, makes things a young easier when fishing from the front. if the one you have a tiller control. if so until you get another one if you want just take out the bolt that holds the head on

You can look at retail stores, but a 65 crestie is cute obsolite. I deal with people all day looking for obsolete parts. My suggestions are (with the company out of the mix)

Crestliner Commander 12 Foot Aluminum Runabout
by Briny
This is a 1956 Crestliner Commander 12 foot aluminum knockabout. It is powered by a 1955 Johnson 25hp outboard. It started out as a rowboat, with no decking, but was rated for 30hp by the plant, and shares the same shell as the decked models handy at the antiquated. It now has pair decks, front and backside bench seats, and a windshield, steering, and bolt feed – all made by me. On a pure day, with trifocals uncluttered first, and when trimmed and adjusted decent above-board, she’ll do 30. I was hitting about 27 in this vid.
