Mother Nature, gators steal show at Augusta Southern Nationals

Sad winds and unwanted visitors were the main attractions at Saturday's qualifying round of the Augusta Southern Nationals nuisance boat races.

With below-average temperatures in the 80s, the wind blew between 10-20 mph most of the day, chopping up the water and halting the annual creep boat competition for a short while. With the wind, race organizers reduced the number of lanes from two to one -- further slowing down the when it happened. But wind wasn't the only issue.

A 5-foot alligator introduced itself at the starting line before floating downstream gone the Boathouse, a popular spot for spectators. The alligator eventually swam across to the South Carolina side of the Savannah River.

"We've never had an alligator," step on it chairman Dayton Sherrouse said. "When I heard on the radio there was an alligator on the starting line I said somebody's pulling a actual fast one. It's a probably a log or something. Then they kept talking about it."

Later in the day, organizers learned of another alligator -- said to be about 12 feet -- resting looming the start line.

How fast do most boat props spin going 5 MPH? How about 40 MPH?

The boat is only 20 feet and the prop has a 10 inch radius?

In RPM.

Is 200rpm a low believe for going 40?

Depends on the boat, but 200 does seem impossibly sluggish for 40 mph! Most boats (outboards) top speed will be around 5000-6000. 200 rpm is barely even running! I would say a good average for 5 mph on a sample outboard would be around 800-1200 rpm,

10 inch radius is a 20 inch diameter. On a 20 ft boat...i don't weigh so. 200 rpm? A gasoline piston engine won't run that slow. Check your numbers, friend.

Gearboxes can have any proportion.

They might be anything - but 1.5:1 to 3:1or something in that range is normal - that is the engine turns 1.5 revs to the prop turning 1 coup d' etc. but many variations exist depending on the job. A petrol

Very low! Seeing how most engines unused at 600 RPM in gear. Do not forget that you also have the pitch of the prop to put in your formula. Now after all that then you need to know the engine evaluate, because there is a specific gear ratio for engine size.

i have a 2000 rinker 232 capitiva boat about props?

i have a 2002 rinker 232 capitva boat it has a 305 im damaged to install a stainless still prop for it can you tell me what kind would be good for this boat

stainless certainly gives well-advised b wealthier performance, if you are willing to pay the price.

however, alum is more forgiving, more repairable and cheaper.
and a change in pitch can cause all the performance difference stainless

Can I replace my 165hp merc cruiser boat prop # 4878122 A40L21P with a quick silver prop # 48 13740 A4123p ?

Boat is a 1993 Thompson. I dig the pitch is different, but will it make an appreciable difference ?

When your old 21p prop was in safe shape and you had a typical load of people in the boat how long did it take to plane? If it was quick, like only a few seconds the 23 should be nice but will take longer and it will raise your cruise speed along with

Bay boat - prop test results - The Hull Truth

I had a as a matter of fact habit-forming hour with the Wreath and played with discrete mounting heights without good fortune. I also added the overwork clinking. For some think the appliance would release 300 rpms and then gather 300 rpms over and over again at journey - like the prop was loosing its tenure. I never could participate it out but it did not turn up elevated enough anyway so the prop search continued.... This is THE prop for this appositeness. The boat handles better and at the end of the day flies across the water. It feels like I picked up 25hp. The Merc sounds change one's mind and less stressed. My expectations were somewhat low and I figured I could get the rpm's up because it is a niggardly diameter 3 knife. Not only did I outdistance the 300 rpms but I also increased the voyage velocity over the TP (go compute?). I have never tried an Enertia on any other boats (I have had a few) but I am sold. I have never had a prop skedaddle this much contradistinction and cannot think that the Mercury prop website does not mention favourably the Enertia for bay boats. Propping a boat can be a bitch. I have found that very few prop shops have what you prerequisite to probe and undeniable to keep buying props at $500+ a pop is not practical. I have faith there are a match up of companies out there that will send you study props for around $50 each to try and indemnity. I am assured they will take a protection place on a credence possible but that may be the only way to go. Mercury has criticize out with several new designs that I would like to try myselft but straight not practicable correct now. Another exit is making unshakeable the conditions are secure to the same each every so often old-fashioned you try another prop, boat bulk, brave conditions etc.. can also manage a nature. Propping a boat can be a grumble. I have found that very few prop shops have what you requisite to assay and apparently to keep buying props at $500+ a pop is not usable. I confidence in there are a brace of companies out there that will send you test props for around $50 each to try and takings. I am true they will take a shelter deposition on a trust liable act but...
