Has anyone tried hauling a 14 foot aluminum jon boat strapped down on top of a minivan? Will it work?

I am buying a 14 foot without delay bottom boat tomorrow. No motor or anything. Is it feasable to try and haul it home strapped down on top of my minivan (96 Mercury Villager). The boat is 14 feet hunger and 56 inches wide at the top.
I don't plan on going that fast with it and I will be using several tie downs and bungee straps to healthy it.
Buy yourself a canoe tie down kit that has 4 bubble blocks that attach to the gunnels, Tie ends of jon to bumper or tow hooks firmly with and also tie over middle. Be carefull if it is turgid.

Not a virtuous idea. Too much wind resistance.

Get a pen-pal with a truck. No matter how good you think its tied down or slow you go something bad is gonna happen.

well when my sunfish got pumelled on some rocks my uncle had a minivan and we took out all the incumbency and stuck her in the back. you can probably put it on the roof as long as you dont drive to fast, if the wind catches it the criminal way when your driving fast your screwd.

How do I remove fiberglass from Aluminum boat?
Apr 11, 2007 by rollrsk8ter | Posted in Boats & Boating
Bought a Aluminum Jon boat which someone applied fiberglass to well-grounded the lower portion. Some of it peeled off easy, but the rest is really attached to the aluminum. I tried using a wirebrush on a teach, but this is taken forever. Any ideas how to easily remove it?
Typically, to carry away or thin out the fiberglass, sanding works great. Use orbital sander and pretty coarse sandpaper (120-150 hardiness).
As the other answers mention it, be sure to check if the boat does not leak when you remove the fiberglass.

How do i paint an aluminum boat?
May 16, 2007 by Tyler H | Posted in Boats & Boating
I legitimate received a fishing boat that is aluminum. The person before me painted it brown but it is starting to come off and i want to make it look new again. How do i take the colour off with out recking the aluminum? What kind of paint do i need? Any finishes that i may need? What kind of price am i looking at to do all of this?
Painting should be informal. There is no need to sand all of the old paint off as long as its still adhering to the boat. Primer and paint. Make sure that the carouse is compatable with aluminum. I know that if you're leaving the boat in the water, make sure that the bottom paint you use is compatable. Most bottom paints repress copper which will cause the aluminum to corrode.

prep the aluminum with a metal prep you can get this at an automotive paint supply research. This will cause a blueing affect,or rainbow affect.
After the metal prep you will need to prime with stand up primer. wash primer is a zinc chromate primer that is mixed with phosphoric acid usally 50/50 blend.
When spraying he wash primer spray a light enough coat so that you can see thru it . (transparent) usually if sprayed too thick the overlay primer will fail to adhere properly.
Topcoat the wash primmer with a 2-part epoxy primer or primer sealer. primer will indigence a scuffing before final top coating. use 180 grit D/a sand paper on D/a (dual action)sander. in deeply to get places use red scotch brite scuff pad.
Primmer/ sealer can be painted usally after a flash yet of at least 20 minutes and usally no more than a couple of hours. I'd sugguest using a true polyurethane enamel. imron or equililant. this is a isolated stang paint, meaning it shines without needing a clearcoat.
A polyurethane enamel shines without needing polishing and withstands to the husky elements.
