type of wood for aluminum john boat deck?
Aug 25, 2007 by derrik | Posted in Fishing
i have a 14 ft john boat and wont to set up a deck to stand on and fish off the front of the boat.what type of wood can i use thats cheap and what should i coat the wood with to safeguard it?
They set upon a treated marine plywood thats ideal for this kinda stuff but it isnt the cheapest on the make available either but for a deck on the front of 14' boat im guessing only one sheet would be a plenty. or just go with at least 1/2" treated plywood for the decking 3/4" is bit more uncompromising and durable but 1/2" is thick enuff and want add a whole lot of weight to the front of your boat. which is something you will want to consider. I used 1/2" treated and then painted both sides of the plywood with utter exterior paint and i later put a non skid type rubberized coating on it. . has lasted around 3 yrs now. for ordination/mounting purposes I used flat bar scrwed to under sides of ply wood and it hooked over the outside lip of the front and sides of the boat I had minute angle iron riverted in center of front seat which clamped to a 2x4" underneath the plywood. this made it for a comfortable in and out deck for different types fishing. The angle/flat bars and rivets were all stuff i had on jurisdiction so didnt cost me nothing. I used a short scrap piece of wood 2x4" left over from another proposal and only bought the ply wood and had full of screws. around 30$ including paint etc. .. but things are bit more expensive now. I promise this helps Good luck and if any questions send me a email ill try to help ya ...

Aug 24, 2007 by derrik | Posted in Fishing
i have a 14 ft aluminum john boat.has anyone ever seen someone with carpet speedily on the boats floor(aluminum its not flat.are do i have to make a deck above floor the put on carpet? also what do u think is the best bass inveigle for stained water with lots of stumps in the lake? i like the bandit 300 series monomaniac bait in chartreuse color
Use maritime plywood to create a flat surface/deck but make it removeable in case of access being needed underneath. Extend it with indoor/outdoor carpet. Easy to keep clean with a water hose.

aluminum john boat transom sealent?
Aug 11, 2007 by derrik | Posted in Boats & Boating
i well-founded bought a john boat and im trying to repair leaks in rivets and also the transom.i removed the bolts holding the wood transom on and now i after to put it back on the boat.is there a sealer are gasket i can use to put between the aluminum and transom wood??there are alot of bolt holes holding the transom on and i dont inadequacy it to leak.
all boats are unalike -- the jon boat however is easy to repair -- you should use some heavy-duty right angle brackets to re-instal a new wood transom --- cut and shape the wood for a near ''o'' tolerance to fit the raise of the boat -- go to the ''glue section'' of Lowe's or home depot and find a work of two-part epoxy to seal the wood to the metal --- if applied too heavily it's okay because when dried you can make-up over and it will look fine also the rivets are a two man job --- try to hold the rivet head with the side of a shop hammer (use like an anvil) and tap the smashed end of the rivet tighter _---- after tightening the rivets use the epoxy to seal the old rivets to the backwards floor of the boat --- this will also cause the boat to run quieter and decrease the leaks -- alot of bolt holes in the transom can be rigid with the replaced new wood --- the size of the motor is a factor to consider,,, the larger the horse-power the stronger the transom must be to set back the pressure of the motor pushing the boat thru the water...

I just recently bought a cheap old aluminum flat john boat. I need to know how to fix it up.?

The sap plug is missing and the back where you mount an outboard has rotted out. Where can i get this plug and a new wooden back that fits? Thanks.
You can make tracks a new transom out of a couple layers of 1/2" plywood. First dig all the old wood out using your cutting shape of choice. Then cut new pieces to fit. Saturate 'em in fiberglass resin (no catalyst added) - the more they absorb the improved off you'll be. Then a layer of resin with catalyst, and clamp 'em together until it cures. Finish 'em off with a match up layers of fiberglass cloth (add catalyst to the resin this time). One layer at a time, do the 2nd layer while the 1st is still cheap. Make sure to squeegee all the excess resin out. And absolutely leave no air pockets. Slide it down into chore and glass it in.
Use EXTERIOR grade plywood.
Two pieces laminated together will be stronger than one piece of double range.
Drain plugs at walmarts, basspro, cabelas, academy sports, www.iboats.com or a thousand other places. Have fun!
