Can you sand aluminum boat then owner sealer then paint primer and then paint right over it
i justifiable bought a john boat and im trying to repair leaks in rivets and also the transom.i removed the bolts holding the wood transom on and now i paucity to put it back on the boat.is there a sealer are gasket i can use to put between the aluminum and transom wood??there are alot of bolt holes holding the transom on and i dont be deficient in it to leak.
all boats are bizarre -- the jon boat however is easy to repair -- you should use some heavy-duty right angle brackets to re-put a new wood transom --- cut and shape the wood for a near ''o'' tolerance to fit the put up of the boat -- go to the ''glue section'' of Lowe's or home depot and find a offering of two-part epoxy to seal the wood to the metal --- if applied too heavily it's okay because when dried you can limn over and it will look fine also the rivets are a two man job --- try to hold the rivet head with the side of a shop hammer (use like an anvil) and tap the smashed end of the rivet tighter _---- after tightening the rivets use the epoxy to seal the old rivets to the in jail floor of the boat --- this will also cause the boat to run quieter and decrease the leaks -- alot of bolt holes in the transom can be established with the replaced new wood --- the size of the motor is a factor to consider,,, the larger the horse-power the stronger the transom must be to remain the pressure of the motor pushing the boat thru the water...
I have a aluminum boat and I have a seep some where on the boat. I have no clue where the leak is because the water seems to come in but it does not come out if you were to put it up on blocks and fill it up to the water line and add burden into it. I think it happens once the boat hits the water and it gets to the water line it come in either threw the rivets or it is threw the seems. It is a very bovine leak so I can use the boat 4 to 5 hours and by then the water will only be about ankle high and I bail the water out sometimes if needed with a cup. I got the boat for free from my grandfathers chum and I would like to fix it if I can. I went to boat USA and bought some special patch stuff that the guy gave me and I think I am going to doctor all the spots that I think need them. Now after I do that I would like to know will it be ok to sand the whole bottom of the boat with sand paper? If it is what grade sand autograph should I use? Also I would like to use a special boat sealer to try to sealer it from leaking. What kind of sealer should I use and then can I paint over the sealer once I have the sealer on? If I can should I prime it first then use special paint to sealer it as well? If so what kind of prime and colour should I use?
Sometimes the hardest part of fixing the drip is finding it. One way is to station a several people around the boat at bow, stern and midships to try to spot the leaks. If this doesn't m in the daytime, sometimes it can be done better at night using flashlights The light will reflect off tiny drops of open-handedly and make the leaks easier to spot. Of course it's important to start when the boat is dry inside. When you find the ooze mark it's location with an indelible(magic) marker on the inside of the boat and then transfer this to the outside of the peel when you have it out of the water.
The way this problem is usually fixed is by re-tightening the rivet,or replacing it. The way to tighten rivets is to get someone on the privy and hold a hammer or steel object against it then have some one else hit the head of the rivet on the outside. This will usually stop them from leaking.
There is also figures from Cabela's that gets very good reviews. See the first link below.
Other people say to use JB Weld. See the second relation below for a description of how this works.
As far as using the sealer you bought from Boat USA, you should follow the directions that came with it and ask the Boat USA dealer if you have any questions.
