Sanding and polishing an aluminum boat?
Mar 10, 2008 by cactusajw | Posted in Boats & Boating
I bought a 12 foot aluminum boat recently. Ther is some maquillage on it. What kind of sanding equipment should I use. Also I would like to remove the scratches and polish the boat. How do I go about doing that also. Should you take the boat in to get polished or can I do it at home.
I have heard that Flitz works well on aluminum and other metal surfaces.

A belongings spray on/hose of aluminum conditioner will clean it up nice. You don't want to "polish" it too much though, put one's trust in it or not there are DNR laws against "too much" glare [ I'm picturing you polishing it to a chrome-like drain, which I'm sure you aren't talking about].

If anyone noes anything to do with polishing aluminum boats or products it would be much avilable in Victoria it would be much apperciated thanks.........
You cant categorically stop the oxidation in aluminum expecially the part that touches the water but if you clean you boat on a regular basis it will keep those lime and calcium deposits frome forming. only offshoot i know of that really cleans aluminum is an acid.and you dont want to use it on pontoons or really the hull of a boat because it polishes by removeing the top layer of aluminum

polishing aluminum boat?

can you polish the boat with wet and dry post with brasso and the use the buffer on the anglegrinder. will it harm the boat?
Depends on what accommodating of a finish you want.
You can use a fine wet/dry sandpaper to get the surface corision off and then go to an Aircraft Supply and get an Aluminum polish for aircraft. You use a wax polisher (or by submit), put the paste on (it will look like a wax paste), you buff until it is "black", then take a rag and put common household pantry baking flower on it and rub it off with little effort. It will leave a mirror finish. Then if you want, a good wax will keep it looking that way for some but.
