A total of 8,060 fiberglass boats were sold during the month, down from 8,497 in the same month a year earlier, according to figures compiled by Aarn Rosen, inhabitant marine sales manager at Statistical Surveys Inc.

Sales of aluminum pontoon and fishing boats rose 10 percent, to 3,392, for the month, up from 3,051 in August 2010. Pontoon rowing-boat sales were up 12.7 percent, to 1,645 boats, and sales of fishing boats were up 9.7 percent, to 1,747 boats.

Outright industry sales across all categories fell 0.5 percent for the month, from 12,450 boats in August of last year to 12,385 during the same month this year.

The sales bumf is based on registration data from 27 states, or 66 percent of the U.S. boat market. Reports of sales of documented vessels were unaccomplished in the data because of entry delays at the Coast Guard.

Within the fiberglass market, sales in the popular 14- to 30-foot section fell 2.3 percent, to 1,775 boats, from 1,816 in August 2010. Sales of personal watercraft floor 6.6 percent, to 2,962 units, from 3,171 in the same month a year earlier.

I'm building a 10' aluminum boat how fast would it go if i put on a 10 hp motor on it?

you put 3 people in it and it wont do 10 mph.it prolly wont Spartan out.with 2 or less people,you might get to around 20-22 mph

the top fly like the wind of your boat depends on several factors including boat design, and weight.

if it's a non planning design then top help will be about 6 to 8 mph. if it is a planning hull, and you can balance the hull to get the boat to plane.

considering the typical motor on a 10' boat, if you build it strong enough to call a 10 hp, you have LOTS of power for the size. might see speeds nearing 20 mph with just you and little

Can I use a wire welder on an aluminum boat?

I have a 10 foot jon knockabout, with some holes on the runners on the bottom. I was wondering if I could seal the holes, and then use some aluminum angle to reinforce it. Is this possible?

Yes a MIG is absolute,use a thick piece of steel on the back side of the weld to absorb the heat. .Make sure you clean the aluminum first to remove the oxidization.Fill it in and travail it down.Make sure you use straight argon for a shielding gas.

i have a 10 foot aluminum knockabout and it has about 3 cracks on the hull near the transom and i was wondering if i could melt some aluminum and pour it on the cracks to "unite" it? btw i already melt aluminum as a hobby,

You would be more wisely served by using 3M Polyurethane Fast Cure 4200 Sealant. Otherwise, you'll need welding materiel to heat both edges of the crack and then add the filler.
